Nikolay Denkov: We will insist on a budget with anti-crisis measures to be adopted in the new parliament - 1

„The state needs a good regular budget. Everywhere I go in the country these days, I hear extremely worried people about everything that is ahead of them, about the bills they expect, about how their incomes are melting away. Bulgarians understand that the war between the US and Iran is having a negative effect on their personal accounts, on the economy, on the markets that are blocked“, said Acad. Nikolay Denkov in the studio of “The Day with Vesselin Dremdzhiev“.
He emphasized that no one anymore believes the version that the introduction of the euro has caused inflation. And he quotes his own sources – experts from abroad, according to whom Europe will yet feel the effects of the war, because in terms of fuel it is still working with reserves. And the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which only a few tankers currently pass, instead of the usual 140-150, is the main factor for this.
“One of the tasks of the caretaker government is to prepare a budget that it can submit to the new National Assembly and for us to take care that this budget is adopted as quickly as possible. The state must be prepared in advance for the effects of the war, and not react only when people feel the blow,“ said Denkov.
He recalled that for the first time since 2022, Bulgaria is in such a critical situation. Then, during Russia's attack on Ukraine, an energy crisis occurred in our country, bills soared, and then the PP government adopted a package of measures aimed at businesses, working people, and pensioners.
Denkov is categorical that a similar package of measures must now be adopted, and We Continue the Change will propose it in the budget so that the state can support each of the vulnerable groups in the coming months.
“If the measures are correctly targeted, there will be money for those who need them, without burdening the country's budget and economy“, noted Academician Denkov.
Some of the measures include returning excess profits from energy companies as compensation to businesses for electricity prices, increasing the VAT registration threshold to 85,000 euros in turnover, after GERB and DPS reduced it again to 51,000 euros, increasing tax breaks for young families with children – all measures that simultaneously stimulate the economy and help those who need support the most.
Nikolai Denkov rewinded the tape to 2009, when after the economic crisis, the Minister of Finance from GERB Simeon Dyankov, instead of injecting liquidity, withdrew money from operating companies and the result was stagnation. After that, the ruling GERB party spun the record about there being no money in the budget to justify that pensions had been growing by 8 leva per year for years. The result is that by 2022 Bulgaria had become a poor country.
In the studio of Vesselin Dremdzhiev, Nikolay Denkov also commented on the complaints of the parties of Borisov and Peevski about the work of the Ministry of Interior to protect the integrity of the vote.
„If you have been used to buying votes for years, of course you will be worried when the Ministry of Interior does its job. "And here we are talking about caught buyers with money," Denkov noted and expressed hope that the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Secretary General will continue to work in this way. And anyone who tries to buy votes, regardless of which party they belong to, will be stopped. Although the uncovered vote-buying operations are probably a relatively small part of those planned for the elections on April 19, the actions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also serve as a warning to criminals, commented Academician Denkov.
