According to him, JD Vance's visit to Hungary a few days before the vote was a wrong decision, and the result - "catastrophic". In his words, the Hungarians see this visit as an attempt at outside interference in the country's politics. Tsekov also added that Donald Trump has stayed away from Viktor Orbán's campaign.
The associate professor also said that "when a politician stays in power for too long - 16 years of Fidesz's majority, 20 years of Orbán as prime minister - this always leads to political deviations, the creation of plutocratic elites around the government, a sense of messianism, and hence corrupt practices". He added that this also led to the high voter turnout and the categorical vote against Orbán and the policies he is pursuing, namely confrontation with Europe and "open flirtation" with the regime in the Kremlin and Iran.
