"I agreed to take on the position of Chief Secretary with the clear awareness that it will be difficult. That citizens' trust in the Ministry of Interior is low. When you have been a police officer all your life, like me, this is much more than a painful realization" - this is how the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Georgi Kandev begins the review on his Facebook profile and continues:
Over the past two months, my team and I have done everything in our power to protect the most important thing - the right to free speech and the holding of fair elections.
I personally toured all 28 regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior. I spoke with the police officers in the field. I tried to break the fear. To eliminate that belief that if you do your job conscientiously and legally, you can make a mistake, because someone won't like it.
Yes, they questioned me. Yes, they checked me. But that doesn't scare me. Because the assessment of our work is not written by ballot vendors. It is written by the people. By you.
My conscience is clear. I sleep peacefully. Because I know that my actions were and continue to be solely in the interest of all Bulgarian citizens.
Behind every successful action in recent months there was a plan. Clear and specific. To fight those who steal our future.
Now is the moment when everything depends on us.
Go out and vote. En masse. Freely. Without fear.
Your voice is louder than any police officer in uniform.
More frightening to vote-stealers than any campaign.
Heavier than any prepared envelope of money and notebooks of notes.
The choice is yours.
