Kiril Petkov: Bulgaria is in a new stage and PP-DB will have an important role - 1

„Thank you to everyone who supported PP-DB. Let's defeat GERB and increase our deputies in this wave - this is your merit!“. This was written on social networks by the former co-chairman of „We Continue the Change“ Kiril Petkov.

„Bulgaria is in a new stage and PP-DB will have an important role in it“, he added.

These were the first elections after the creation of „We Continue the Change“, in which Kiril Petkov was not part of the lists. In June 2025, he resigned as an MP and co-chair of the PP after the recording scandals in Sofia.

The initial results of the parliamentary elections show a large lead for Rumen Radev's “Progressive Bulgaria“ as the formation will have over 121 mandates - the minimum required to form a government.

Rumen Radev is ahead of Borisov's best result since 2009, when GERB received 116 mandates. He is also ahead of Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha's performance in 2001, when NMSV won 120 mandates.

The sociologists' comment

“The picture regarding the electorate of this new leading political force is quite colorful. We should note that a significant part of the younger generation voting for GERB is changing their choice and voting for “Progressive Bulgaria“, commented sociologist from “Market LINKS“ Dobromir Zhivkov.

“There is a very serious internal dynamic between the individual political formations that are transferring the electorate to Rumen Radev's party“, he said.

First of all, the most new voters are coming to his political formation. Then there are equally many voters for “Vazrazhdane“, GERB, and PP-DB, the sociologist specified.

“This is obviously a completely new type of political phenomenon in our landscape, which manages to absorb an extremely serious electoral force“, said Zhivkov.

“Progressive Bulgaria“ has an absolute majority. "It had a much steeper rise literally in the last days of the campaign," commented sociologist from "Alpha Research" Boryana Dimitrova.

"For me personally, there are two unknowns. "Vazrazhdane" inside or outside the parliament and who will be the second political force," she said.
