Today, I am submitting my first bill as a member of the 52nd National Assembly with my colleagues from "Continuing Change" (PP). It provides for changes to the Judiciary Act regarding the method of selecting the parliamentary quota in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), so that it is public, not party-based, and that academic circles and the legal profession can nominate their representatives in the SJC.
This was said by lawyer Velislav Velichkov from the "Justice for Everyone" initiative, who is now a PP MP, in a video published on his "Facebook" page, which also documents the entry of the document into the parliamentary registry. He emphasized that the planned change is extremely important.
Velichkov added that it is even more important that the proposal should no longer allow the current composition of the Supreme Judicial Council, in which almost all members have expired terms, to make personnel changes and appointments. "That is, it should not be able to appoint, promote, demote magistrates and elect administrative heads in the judicial system. The goal is to stop the negative selection and to give the new composition of the SJC the opportunity to settle these relations and continue with the personnel appointments of magistrates, and all pending competition procedures should be terminated within the meaning of the law," explained the attorney. Velichkov.
After the entry procedure, he noted that the document was prepared according to his draft, which was coordinated with serious lawyers.
Velislav Velichkov also said that 29 years ago he became a member of parliament from the UDF, from the parliamentary group of the United Democratic Forces (UDF)/ "The change that began in 1997 has not ended and must continue", he reported. At that time, his first bill was to declare the Day of Reunification - September 6, a national holiday.
