Vasil Terziev: Sofia is not a scene for sabotage - 1

The Sofia Municipality has received only 98,554 leva in state funds so far for the 156 approved projects for 2025 and only 10 agreements for sites in the Pancharevo, Bankya, Mladost and Ilinden districts, the municipality's press center announced.

According to “Moskovska“ 33 delays in transfers of state funds under the municipal financing program threaten the payments and implementation of key infrastructure projects in the capital.

Among the affected projects are the repair of “Alexander Stamboliyski“ Blvd., the Copper Factory bridge, which was opened to traffic a month ago, and “Opalchenska“ Str. For them, not a single lev has been transferred for this year.

For comparison, other municipalities have already received hundreds of millions under the same program. The reports of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works of the Republic of Bulgaria as of August 31, 2025 show that under the same program, 435 million leva were paid for 720 projects to 214 municipalities.

"As mayor, I cannot allow political games and delays in funds to stop the development of the city. Every street, every bridge, every kindergarten are part of the daily life of every Sofia resident and I will insist that the funds that are due to our citizens be paid in full“, said the mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev.

“Sofia is not a scene for sabotage. The lack of payment by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW) for state-funded projects makes it difficult to work on large construction sites, puts at risk the quality of execution and the ability to ensure a correct attitude towards business and workers in the capital,“ said Deputy Mayor for Public Works Nikola Lyutov.

The municipality will continue to insist on the prompt and unconditional payment of the funds due.

At the end of August, Vasil Terziev announced that the state owes Sofia a total of nearly 19 million leva.

In 2024, payments for 11 million leva were requested from "Moskovska" 33, but they received only half of these funds. Another 43 thousand leva of them were received only in July 2025, the capital's mayor announced at the time.
