Hristo Ivanov: We did not fight against the president, but against corruption and the backstage

There should have been a law on the caretaker government, but no one expected that the colleagues would overthrow the regular government

The rotation failed because GERB and DPS decided they were not ready to part with the 100 percent influence they had in the regulators. Some time ago, the then chairwoman of the PG of GERB Desislava Atanasova said - 2/3 for GERB-DPS. When we put this issue on the table, that was the first time there were very strong reactions from GERD and DPS. This was the moment when it became clear that they were not going to allow any rotation under these conditions. From then on, the whole process was punt and plastic. Four times they blew up the negotiation process, five times they gave different ultimatums. This gave clear signs that they were looking for reasons to prevent this process from coming to a successful end.

This is what he said in the show "Face to Face" on bTV the co-chairman of "We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria" Hristo Ivanov.

This government happened because we made a complex compromise over 18 months. There was no reason to renegotiate things. The compromise stipulated that there should be a change of ministers only by mutual agreement, we have also complied, for example, with our request for a change of the interior minister, he added.

In response to a question about the words of GERB leader Boyko Borisov that at the last moment he met with the co-chairman of "We continue the change" Asen Vassilev and the rotation was almost agreed upon, but failed due to a request from the PP – DB for the replacement of the Minister of Internal Affairs Kalin Stoyanov, Hristo Ivanov stated: These are stories from the rose bush. We didn't want all the power. These changes should be in the interest of both political forces if we want to make reforms. This person allowed police violence in the center of Sofia. But the very fact that Borisov himself did not participate in the negotiations showed the imitative, camouflaged nature of these talks.

I claim that we did not fight with the president, we simply aimed to prevent Bulgaria from being a republic with presidential rule. There should have been a caretaker government law, but no one expected that the colleagues would overthrow the regular government and throw us into an election only two months after the adoption of the constitutional changes. Taking away the constitutional provision takes time and requires political forces not to cause crises unnecessarily, Ivanov said.

In response to a question about the president's words that they will most likely receive an official cabinet that will not be convenient for them, the co-chairman of "We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria" pointed out: We will get what the president is able to do in the situation. When constitutional changes are made, we do not look at who is where. We have tried to return the political process to some kind of normality. Rushing to talk about a crisis, injecting another layer of worry doesn't work for anyone. With common sense and responsibility, things will happen.

It is perfectly possible, reasonable and expedient to have 2 in 1 elections because we are not such a rich country to throw money on the street. Self-serving delay of the third mandate would be an irresponsible action, added Hristo Ivanov.

The question is whether we want to bear political responsibility, we are looking for a reason to be offended and to screw up. We could also pull out a list and say they've gone overboard. The contract was for 18 months, no one has the right to irresponsibly and without political arguments break it. Despite all the provocations, we did not interrupt the negotiation process. We did not come out and say that we are ending the negotiations, emphasized the co-chairman of "We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria".

The entire practice of this administration showed that GERB could not make independent decisions without Delyan Peevski. We didn't ask for Peevski's initials (signature – ed.), but GERB needs Peevski's initials all the time, he noted.

We want the judiciary and regulators to be filled with quality people in a transparent process. We have shown that we are fighting for the country to get out of the institutional quagmire. This can only be done with reforms. Therefore, we will ask for the trust of the citizens in the upcoming elections, Hristo Ivanov also said.
