The salary in large chains is 60 percent higher compared to other units of trade. The number of people working in modern trade continues to grow – just over a quarter of those employed in retail work in large chains. This is according to a study by the Institute of Market Economy on the socio-economic contribution of modern trade in Bulgaria.

"There is a competitive market in retail. In some industries there is none, but in retail trade there is a choice for the consumer", remarked the economist Petar Ganev, senior researcher at the Institute of Economic Research, pointing out the access to the market both through small shops and direct trade, as well as through large stores.

The data show that there is a huge amount of Bulgarian goods in both food and non-food goods, emphasized Petar Ganev in the program "Before all". of the BNR.

Entering the eurozone, the big chains will start providing NSI with price information on a weekly basis, as is the practice in Europe, the economist specified.

"We will have real information from sales at the checkout,", he explained, and compared this mechanism to the current collection of information by pollsters with notebooks that go around thousands of locations.

"There is no way it will happen on January 1, 2025. Our inflation is higher at this stage. What Parliament needs to do is to pass the Euro Law, which is under public discussion. Either way, since we're delaying membership for a few months, the deadline isn't as pressing. There must be political will to enter the eurozone, because when there are new elections, new players on the horizon, this would potentially be in question," said the economist regarding the date for Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone.

Regarding the restrictive regime that the Parliament imposed on the Minister of Finance, Petar Ganev commented:

"Once again, we are back in a scenario in which some parliamentary majority is in opposition to the finance minister. In recent weeks, the parliament has begun to seize functions of the executive branch."

From the point of view of fiscal policy, there is no logic in the parliament seizing the functions of the finance minister, he added.
