“There is always a danger of undermining trust in institutions. But it is in action, it has been on the agenda for a long time. I have said that for nearly 4 years our country is in a phase of agony. It's a harrowing drama. We see strange management formulas – last was “the assembly” and what not". This was stated in the program "Offensive with Ljubo Ognyanov" on NOVA NEWS, the former acting Prime Minister Prof. Georgi Bliznashki in response to the question of whether there is a danger of undermining trust in the institutions against the background of the scandal with the former Chief Secretary Zhivko Kotsev and the election of Kalin Stoyanov as acting Minister of the Interior.

He reminded that “in order to govern, you must have won the elections”. “Democracy by definition is the rule of the majority. As you did not win the election – what reforms will you make? Therefore, it is better to have elections - for the political parties to appear before the voters and convince them of their rightness and vision for the future of the country, than for this endless agony to continue again and again, he is categorical.

On the question of whether investigative secrecy should be removed from the legislation – a proposal that turned out to be a stumbling block for the signing of an agreement between PP-DB and GERB-SDS - he answered: “Categorically no. It is clear in advance that this will be the occasion for many abuses. We are heading towards the worst possible phenomenon, namely the politicization of the judicial system. This is the effect of external interference in Bulgaria's internal affairs. The politicization of the judicial system contradicts all trends within the EU. But in our country everything is politicized. You see the whole debate around this crisis revolves around the Home Secretary. We are still in those distant times when the prime minister was most often also the minister of the interior, because that is how it is guaranteed that his party will remain in power,”, emphasized Prof. Bliznashki.
