Germany did not let Yannis Varoufakis enter its territory - 1

The former Greek finance minister Yannis Varoufakis was not allowed to enter Germany, to attend a controversial pro-Palestinian conference in Berlin. Several other people were also banned. The authorities made this decision, driven by concerns that participants in the forum could make anti-Semitic statements during it, reported France Presse, citing sources in the German security services.

Varoufakis, co-founder of the pan-European left party “DIEM 25”, wrote in “Ex“ yesterday that the German Ministry of the Interior issued him an activity ban, which means, according to him, a ban on developing political activity on German territory. This also applied to his participation in online events, for example through the “Zum“ platform, Varoufakis said.

According to information from sources from the security services and according to information from the publication “Handelsblad“ it is about an entry ban issued to Varoufakis in Germany.

German police interrupted a pro-Palestinian conference on Friday that was supposed to continue until today. Then he banned it on the grounds that one of its speakers was banned from political activity in Germany. The police reported this in “X“, without naming a specific name.

The war in Gaza has sparked controversy in Germany, where Berlin's strong support for Israel has sparked criticism that pro-Palestinian voices are being marginalized, notes AFP.
