"I would like to apologize for the way in which the Metropolitan Municipality is reorganizing the traffic on "Patriarch Evtimii" Blvd., "Vitosha" Blvd. and "Fritjof Nansen" Street. I'm not even talking about the merits and demerits of the project itself," wrote the mayor of the Sredets capital region on Facebook. Traicho Traikov on the occasion of the new organization of the movement there, against which the protests of those living in the area continue.
Traikov stated that he requested a public discussion of the project and all accompanying documents and studies, that the citizens' reasoned proposals would be taken into account and that working compensatory measures would be introduced at the same time.
"A very big problem for me is that I have not been able to convince my colleagues how important it is to work precisely with respect and thought for the local community, and that I have allowed information to be shared with me deliberately selectively", emphasizes the regional mayor.
"I am tired of repeating that nothing good can happen if the legitimate interest of those directly affected, who are expected to pay the price, is not considered at the same time. I am afraid that this may become a precedent that undermines confidence in the ability of regional mayors to effectively represent the people who elect them and thus lose the opportunity for meaningful urban changes," notes Traikov.
