The problem with the dams is not from yesterday, it is important to know who the owner is so that he can be controlled in the good sense of the word and not do as he sees fit. For this we must go after the money, as the financiers say, because everything is money - the ownership must be clarified, but that is the state's business.

Geographer and climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev commented this to FOCUS.

According to him, all the drinking dams, which are included in the Daily Bulletin on the State of Water, which is published by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and which supply Bulgarian citizens with water, are in very good and excellent condition.

"Even if the summer is very dry, we have a sufficient supply of drinking water and there should not be any problem with the water supply. It is a pity for those Bulgarians who will be on the water regime again in the summer. Plumbing hasn't been replaced in years, etc. It's not nature's fault – it is usually said: Yes, there was a drought and stopped the water. – No, it's all our fault. We know our climate, we know our country and we have to take into account what is happening outside", pointed out Prof. Rachev.

On the occasion of the information that appeared that the dam "Eleshnitsa" is dangerous and is about to overflow, Prof. Rachev noted: "I don't have any information at this moment about the dam, but as soon as it overflows, a mistake was made. We are in the period of the so-called "cherry waters“ – in North-West Bulgaria they are called that. These are when the cherries are ripening, when, as it is currently outside in Sofia, boom-boom, thunder and rain, these are the high waves, sharp rises in the level of the rivers that the dam must absorb. And since he has no free volume, it is clear that everything will go to the overflow, or in the even worse case – to begin to flow over the wall.

Experts need to say if the main spillway of this dam is working and start lowering the level to release volume, as is done everywhere in these places. Including the "Iskar" dam, which is the main one, this month 35 million cubic meters of water will be given for energy supply - i.e. will drink Sofia and a half and will be diverted for energy production, although there is enough water in the dam, but still this volume should be released, since there is still snow in the high mountain that needs to melt, apart from the snowfall.

Eleshnitsa Dam must be released to take on these waters. Otherwise, with the next high wave, it will overflow in any case", Prof. Georgi Rachev also commented.
