Varna and Burgas want an expressway to connect the Bulgarian Black Sea coast

Transport connectivity between Varna and Burgas is important for all Black Sea municipalities, but our city has the most urgent need to be better connected to the rest of the country. Mayor Blagomir Kotsev commented this to the Bulgarian National Television. According to him, the idea of a highway or expressway between the two largest coastal cities has long been on the agenda for the municipalities, but the time has come for them to join their efforts and insist to the state for its realization. The topic was discussed with the mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, with whom they agree that the construction of a highway or expressway is of key importance for the development of the two cities and the municipalities between them.

According to Mayor Kotsev, it is necessary for all municipalities interested in this connectivity to categorically declare their will to build a modern road infrastructure before the state institutions. These are not only the big cities like Varna and Burgas, but also the smaller municipalities of Avren, Dolni Chiflik, Byala, Nessebar and Pomorie.

The development of the entire Black Sea region depends on the availability of a modern transport connection between Varna and Burgas, emphasized Mayor Kotsev. Its construction will drastically improve tourism, industry and trade, while its absence makes it difficult to separate economic zones around major cities and hinders the attraction of investments.

According to him, the will of the state is most important in this case, since the construction of a road between municipalities is its prerogative. In this regard, Mayor Kotsev expressed hope that Bulgaria will have a stable regular government after the elections on June 9, as the economic benefits of the transport connectivity between Varna and Burgas are indisputable for the entire country. We must not allow the instability in Sofia to negatively affect the nearly one million population of the municipalities along the Black Sea, commented the mayor of the maritime capital. He gave examples of the island of Crete and Croatia, where large coastal cities are connected by highways, and added that Bulgaria should not lag behind other countries in this regard.
