We remind you that

The sixth administration of the DS was the main weapon of the Politburo of the BKP in the ideological opposition to the West.

It was created way back in 1967.

The main directions in which the Sixth Administration begins to work purposefully are the intelligentsia, the youth and the clergy. Not only non-party artists are under surveillance, but special attention is paid to those party members who think differently from the party.

The Sixth Directorate of the DS is the first main structure of the DS, which the new leadership of the BKP in the person of Petar Mladenov hastened to close after the forced resignation of Todor Zhivkov on November 10, 1989.

At a secret meeting with the top leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security on November 25, 1989

Mladenov proposes to publicly announce that the Sixth Administration, against which there was public intolerance at the time, was closed. At the same time, Mladenov explained to the DS generals that the personnel of the ideological government would not be sacrificed. That's how it happens.

Although the closure of the Sixth Directorate was announced, it continued to function until January 1990, when State Security was transformed into new special services. One part of operatives from the Sixth Directorate of the State Security Service was transferred to the National Service for the Protection of the Constitution (counterintelligence), and another to the newly created Central Service for Combating Organized Crime in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
