St. Synod will send delegates for the council to elect a new patriarch - 1
Today the delegates for the Patriarchal Electoral Assembly will be chosen. On June 20, the three metropolitans will be elected, from whom the new Bulgarian patriarch will also be elected on June 30.

The Holy Synod has already elected Metropolitan Grigoriy of Vratsa as the Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC). He temporarily leads the Sofia Metropolitanate and deals with the organization of the election of a new patriarch, states dariknews.bg.

There are usually three candidates fighting for the patriarchal throne, who must meet several conditions. Two of them are to be over 50 years of age and to have ruled a diocese as a metropolitan for at least 5 years.

The head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church died at the age of 78 on March 13. On March 15, the mortal remains of Patriarch Neophytes were exposed for veneration in the Patriarchal Cathedral “St. Alexander Nevsky". With a lithic procession, the mortal remains of our spiritual father were brought from the Patriarchal Cathedral “St. Alexander Nevsky" to the church “St. Sunday" with the help of the same carriage with which the remains of Tsar Boris III the Unifier were transported in August 1943. Public opinion also defines Patriarch Neophyte as the Unifier. The grave of Patriarch Neofit is located in close proximity to that of another great spiritual leader of the Bulgarians – Exarch Joseph I Bulgarian.
