The defendant's defense did not want to comment to the media on the reasons for the requested lighter measure.
"It is a correct position that it is worst at the beginning of a proceeding to make a comment about the development of the proceeding itself. It is still a very early stage for me to comment on anything," said his lawyer Dimo Gochev.
The prosecution rejected the arguments as groundless.
"They want an appeal on the grounds that there is no reasonable risk of committing another crime and that he will abscond. The prosecutor's office is of a different opinion, that these dangers are present, which is why we want him to remain in custody," said Yordanka Dacheva, the prosecutor in the case.
