The decision of the Municipal Election Commission (MEC) will be appealed and we believe it will eventually be repealed. This points to the position of "Save Sofia", published on the profile of the municipal councilor Boris Bonev from the group of "We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria". ("Save Sofia") on Facebook, novini.bg reported.
It is about the decision of the OIC, by which Emil Branchevsky, mayor of the "Ilinden" district, was removed from his post.
According to Bonev, this is happening after a lack of sufficiently collected data on the significant facts and after frank criminal actions aimed at changing the vote of the citizens of the "Ilinden" district.
"In their powerlessness and because of their inability to accept the loss of almost all districts in Northern Sofia, the GERB party and its hidden partners resorted to outright criminal actions to remove the mayor elected by the majority," writes Boris Bonev.
He again recalls that, according to Branchevsky, without his knowledge and consent, and by misuse of his data, a company was registered in Great Britain, which is now being used as the basis for the removal. "The municipal election commission, for its part, did not take into account the fact that procedures have been initiated before the British institutions and the Bulgarian prosecutor's office to identify the perpetrators and to delete the falsified entries. The OIC did not give Dr. Branchevsky an opportunity to familiarize himself with the file and receive the right to a fair trial," Boris Bonev also writes.
According to him, the whole "exercise" with the mayor of the "Ilinden" district an event was organized, combining party-organized protests, false denunciations, convenient silence of a number of bodies and finally a helpful decision of the OIC without giving any right of protection and in violation of elementary principles of the rule of law.
"We know that Emil Branchevsky is the first, but not the last, victim of the self-destruction of those who until recently ruled Sofia as a personal fiefdom and who, in their powerlessness, do not shy away from using crimes and removing legally elected public figures in sham processes without any procedural rules", is also written in the position of "Save Sofia".
The Sofia OIC prematurely terminated the powers of the mayor of the “Ilinden” Emil Branchevski, on the grounds that there is evidence that Branchevski is involved as a director and owner in a commercial company Clinic For Medical Services Branchevski registered on February 15, 2024 and entered on February 18, 2024 – Kolev LTD ("Medical Services Clinic – Branchevsky – Kolev" OOD) on the territory of Great Britain. This circumstance is in direct conflict with the norms of the Law on Local Self-Government and Local Administration, the OIC writes.
