Bulgaria does not have the political will to achieve the results for entering the Eurozone.
This is what Lyubomir Datsov, a member of the Fiscal Council and former Deputy Minister of Finance, told BNR.
"It is not so important whether in the fall or in the winter we will cover the inflation criteria. ... The deadline we are pushing back again is January 1, 2026. ... It is realistic to enter the eurozone at the beginning of 2026, but it will take effort, he specified.
"We are overboard and it doesn't matter at all that we fulfill the other criteria, since we don't fulfill one that prevents us from entering the eurozone. Inflation is a process that is managed and requires political measures", he emphasized and commented:
"Such measures were not taken. There was, for the most part, an empty talk of apologies. And the result was visible.
In Datsov's words, if public finances are managed in the same way, "it may turn out that we do not fulfill not only the criterion for inflation, but also the criterion for the budget":
"We try to turn a blind eye to what is happening with the budget, but there are quite unpopular decisions to be made there if we want to have sustainable public finances.
