In connection with significantly increased traffic through the checkpoint “Kulata“ and checkpoint “Makaza“ and the large number of Romanian tourists traveling to and from Greece, from the General Directorate “Border Police” (GDGP) recommend the use of alternative checkpoints on the Bulgarian-Greek border, which are less busy and allow faster passage. Tourists traveling to resorts in the area of Thessaloniki, Kavala and the Halkidiki Peninsula can pass through the checkpoint “Ilinden” as an alternative to the "Tower" checkpoint. Tourists traveling to resorts in the area of Xanthi, Komotini and o. Thassos, can use the checkpoint "Zlatograd" as an alternative to the "Makaza" checkpoint. For resorts in the area of the city of Alexandropoulis, it is recommended to go through the "Captain Petko voivoda" checkpoint.
Through the border crossings "Makaza", “Zlatograd“ and “Ivaylovgrad“ only cars and vans are allowed to pass.
On the border with Romania at the "Kardam" checkpoint, the "Oryahovo" checkpoint and border crossing " Nikopol" traffic is heavy at the exit for trucks. Every Friday from 16:00 to 22:00 the Romanian authorities do not allow trucks through the "Durankulak" checkpoint. in both directions; on Saturdays, Sundays, pre-holidays and holidays, the limit is from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
