Drainage is tormenting thousands of residents of the Kardzhali region. Many localities are already in mode and are experiencing difficulties in the extremely high temperatures. Due to the drought, the level of the rivers has dropped and a large part of the water sources have dried up. Water carriers are included in the schedule, and mayors called for saving drinking water.
Extreme temperatures in the Kardzhali region persist for more than half a month, and rain has not fallen for a long time. Local people say they don't remember such a hot summer. The Varbitsa River, which is one of the full-water ones, has dried up in many places. Residents of villages in three municipalities use water from it, with pumping stations. Now the flow rate of the sources has greatly decreased, and this has led mayors to call for the conservation of drinking water. However, there is no way to track who uses this water for what.
"We have outgrown people's consumption. However, there is no way to inspect every house," says the deputy mayor of the village of Pchelarovo, Margarita Stoykova.
There has been no water in the village for several days, and according to the order of the mayor of Chernoochene municipality, a regime is being introduced – only four hours of water per day. People's problems started ten days ago, says Margarita Stoykova.
"This is a 6-kilometer track. It is being checked, the plumbing is coming, we are detecting. The water enters the village, but what happens in each house?"
The deputy mayor claims that the situation is much worse in the neighboring villages.
"Hazel has been since May – two days they don't have any at all, on the third they only have two hours".
The heat and lack of rain are among the reasons why many places in the Kardzhali region are without drinking water. Locals admit that there have been problems in other years, but this water crisis started much earlier. In the Krumovgrad municipality, the situation is most serious in the villages of Kandilka, Golyama Chinka and Sarnak. They are located far from each other and the water source from which they are fed cannot supply them. His debit has greatly decreased, and the consumers are many, says a deputy – the mayor Abidin Hadjimehmed.
"Debit has decreased and consumption is high".
Due to the drought, a water regime has already been introduced in some parts of the municipality. And in other places, the lack of living liquid is compensated by water carriers.
"The municipal water carrier has started delivering water to certain settlements".
For now, there is no danger of the Krumovgrad municipal center switching to water mode. There, drinking water will be supplied from a reserve well due to the reduced flow rate of the main source. Local people have been warned that the water will be chlorinated and unfit for drinking by tomorrow evening. Other municipalities in the Kardzhali region are in a situation like the one in Krumovgrad. The concern of the local governments is due to the forecasts that the drought will continue until September. According to climate models, no serious rainfall is expected for at least another month. This leads to the search for solutions to deal with the water crisis in places.
