The authorities admitted that the early warning system for disasters and accidents BG-ALERT did not work.
The crisis headquarters explained that it did not activate yesterday during the big fires. For example, no one warned the residents of the village of Voden, who panicked to save themselves, bTV reported.
„This is because, most likely, there was no electricity”, explained Nikolay Nikolov, former director of the General Directorate of Public Safety and Security.
Director of the Fire Chief Commissioner Alexander Zhartov stated that BG-ALERT requires certain procedures for which the time has not come.
„In reality, it is one of the measures provided for in the orders for declaring a state of emergency. It is characteristic of this region that there is no coverage of mobile operators, commented the Minister of the Interior Kalin Stoyanov.
The authorities will still analyze how, in the next disaster, BG-ALERT will be effective in the absence of electricity or mobile coverage.
