For the last two months, compared to the summer of last year, we have 20 patients lying in the clinic with combustion from gas cylinders. Last year, for the same period, we had five. This was stated by doctor Martin Popov, head of the department for adults in the burn and plastic surgery clinic at the "Pirogov" hospital, quoted by Nova TV.
People most often use the gas bottles for cooking, for brewing brandy, compotes, lutenitsa. Patients who have exploded gas bottles from cars also come, explained Dr. Popov.
Excitedly, he told about two difficult moments in his profession, when patients arrived with about 70% burns. “He comes in contact and you know that this will be his last conversation”, explained Dr. Martin Popov. He said that in other countries the gas is colored because it is dangerous.
Increasingly it happens that beachgoers come with quite serious burns – they fell asleep on the beach without getting wet. He advised people to apply sunscreen and lie down in thicker shade. In case of similar burns, the skin can be treated for 15-20 minutes with cold water.
Regarding plastic surgery, he said: "once the integrity of the skin is broken, it can never be restored without a trace".
