The procedure for nominating applicants for a new chief prosecutor has begun, NOVA reported.
Today is the first possible date for nominations. The procedure is open until October 10 inclusive.
The deadline for submission of candidates' concepts is October 24. The hearing and selection of a new prosecutor number 1 is at the beginning of the New Year.
By law, at least three members of the Prosecution College of the SJC, as well as the Minister of Justice, can nominate candidates for chief prosecutor.
Borislav Sarafov is currently holding the position temporarily. He was elected to the post after the release of Ivan Geshev in June 2023.
