"The veto on the amendments to the legislation on the legal profession adopted by the National Assembly, imposed by Radev, must be overcome at the very first meeting of the National meeting this week. Radev's act, obliging the National Assembly to vote for the third time on the changes that guarantee Bulgarian citizens adequate legal protection and regulate the rights of lawyers to negotiate freely and receive decent remuneration for their work, is not supported by convincing arguments. This was stated by the chairman of the DPS and PG of the DPS Delyan Peevski in a statement to the media.
"As representatives of the people, fulfilling the will of the Bulgarian citizens, we must take into account the reaction of disagreement with Radev's veto by the lawyers' guild. The amendments were adopted with a convincing majority in the plenary hall, and this self-serving veto must be overcome again with a convincing majority by the National Assembly," Peevski emphasizes.
And he adds: "Radev's behavior reinforces the opinion that he is acting against basic civil rights, such as the right to a fair trial, proclaimed by the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU and by subordinating the institution to his personal political ambitions, he seeks to incite public and social tension, through which to intervene inadmissibly and directly in the course of the election campaign for the election of parliament".
