A pregnant woman with sepsis was rescued by a team of doctors from several clinics in Pirogov. Her baby was delivered in an emergency at the hospital.
The 29-year-old mother from Dupnitsa sought emergency help at the medical facility in September because she contracted purulent fasciitis, which has not been cured. During her visit to “Pirogov” the doctors on duty found that the woman currently has one of the most common complications of the disease – sepsis, BNR reported.
"A complicating fact is that the woman is 36 weeks pregnant with her second child. This required her to undergo emergency surgery to save both her life and the life of the baby in her womb. Immediately the head of the Department of Operative Gynecology Dr. Ludmil Dzhunkov and the executive director of “Pirogov“ Dr. Valentin Dimitrov contacted the director of “Machin dom“ Prof. Ivan Kostov. A collaboration between Pirogov's specialists in purulent-septic surgery, operative gynecology, resuscitation and their colleagues from the neonatology of the "Mother's Home" has been carried out, Pirogov says.
From there they add that the medical committee has decided to perform an emergency caesarean section.
Thanks to the timely and adequate efforts in the operating room, where they are fighting for the mother's life, Victor cried. He was transported immediately to the neonatology of the "Mother's Home". His mother was placed in the "Pirogov" intensive care unit, where she was treated for more than 10 days.
Mother and baby are now together at home. The doctors who saved the life of the mother and the baby are Dr. Ludmil Junkov, Dr. Valentin Dimitrov, Prof. Ivan Poromanski, Dr. Denisa Alexieva, Prof. Stoyan Milanov from “Pirogov”, as well as Prof. Ivan Kostov and Dr. Hitrova from “Machin dom“.
