Bulgaria should lead a much more adequate and active policy towards the Republic of North Macedonia (RSM), but by treating politicians and public figures in Skopje, who build the country's policy on hatred for Bulgaria and Bulgarians. There should be sanctions for such – to have their Bulgarian citizenship revoked, if they have one, to file cases for instilling ethnic hatred and xenophobia against those who claim that we Bulgarians are Tatars, Gypsies, fascists, occupiers. However, the attitude towards ordinary citizens in RSM should be completely different, the attitude towards them should be like brother to brother, because they are not to blame that the hatched in the hatcheries of the Serbian UDBA “Macedonian elite” decided to make them a victim of the idea of Greater Albania, but not to recognize the historical truth that there are Bulgarians in Macedonia. This is what the leader of VMRO stated in his position – Bulgarian National Movement Dr. Krasimir Karakachanov on the occasion of the information that the EU is separating North Macedonia from Albania on the way to membership negotiations.
According to him, the decision is correct because Skopje's persistence in pursuing an anti-Bulgarian policy and confronting Bulgaria stopped the negotiation process for Albania as well.
Finally, the Europeans understood that with these Yugo-nostalgic cast-iron gourds in Skopje, a normal dialogue cannot be held. Albania is moving forward, and North Macedonia will remain in the cage into which its hard-headed and Bulgarian-hating politicians have put it, he points out.
Karakachanov recalls the great pressure from the EU and the US back in 2020, when Bulgaria led the negotiations with Macedonia, and shares that he feels that the pressure to speed up the process was more because of Albania than because of the RSM. Even then, the leader of VMRO, in his capacity as deputy prime minister, made a proposal to the enlargement commissioner Oliver Varheyi to separate Macedonia from Albania, since the Albanian state fulfilled all requirements, including those for recognizing the Bulgarian minority.
The anti-Bulgarianism instilled by the rulers in Skopje in recent decades may lead to the strengthening of Albanian separatism. It is clear that by starting negotiations, Albania will become a member of the EU in 10-15 years, while Macedonia may not start negotiations during this period. Karakachanov reminds that over 30% of the population of RSM are ethnic Albanians. According to him, this is a serious threat to security in the region in view of the sentiments of the Albanians in Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia for the creation of one state. Bulgaria cannot wait only for officials in Brussels. Bulgarian politics must be much more active if we want tomorrow not to border a Greater Albania, but to border a fraternal Macedonia, Krasimir Karakachanov is categorical.
