The National Assembly insists in a declaration that Skopje restore the positive dialogue they interrupted

Unanimous with 178 votes “for“ and without debate, the deputies adopted a declaration "in connection with the systematic and methodical destruction of the dialogue between the Republic of North Macedonia (RCM) and the Republic of Bulgaria and provocative and insulting statements towards Bulgaria by ruling political factors in the RCM".

In the declaration, the National Assembly of Bulgaria confirms the political intention and aspiration to complete the construction of the Pan-European Corridor VIII on the Bulgarian side and calls on the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia to approach responsibly and in good faith to all the commitments and agreements made with the aim of timely construction of the sections of the corridor's route on its territory.

The Bulgarian Parliament insists on restoring the positive dialogue interrupted by the RSM and stopping the anti-Bulgarian campaign and provocative statements towards Bulgaria in the RSM.

The declaration confirms the will of the Bulgarian state and institutions regarding the organization of joint celebrations of common historical events and personalities, given the rich common history of the two countries. Also, the National Assembly strongly disagrees with the denial of the common history of the RSM and Bulgaria by members of the government of the Republic of North Macedonia, which is a direct violation of the 2017 Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia.

The preamble of the declaration appeals to the institutions in the Republic of North Macedonia, in the spirit of European values and freedoms, to refrain from decisions and actions that would seriously harm the relations between the two countries and their citizens. The fundamental importance of the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia from 2017 and the importance of the bilateral Protocols from the meetings of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission under Art. 12 of 2019 and 2022, as well as the decision of the 47th National Assembly in connection with the enlargement of the European Union and the negotiation process with the Republic of North Macedonia of June 24, 2022, as well as the declaration of February 2, 2023. in connection with the escalating aggressive anti-Bulgarian manifestations in the Republic of North Macedonia.
