The Council of Ministers approved the provision of humanitarian funding to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Yemen in the amount of 50,000 euros to respond to the most urgent humanitarian needs in the country. Funding will be provided from the Official Development Assistance and Humanitarian Aid budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This was announced by the government press office.

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen is one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world: the ten-year conflict in the country is causing enormous human suffering and there is a serious risk of a humanitarian catastrophe. Military conflict, security risks, economic collapse, natural disasters and lack of access to health services in the country have left two-thirds of the population dependent on humanitarian aid, and more than 17.6 million citizens in Yemen are acutely food insecure. The lack of medicines, vaccines and medical care in Yemen pose serious risks to the health and lives of people in the country.

Since the outbreak of the armed conflict in Yemen in 2015, the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the country have focused on the following areas: health care, protection, demining of areas infected with mines and explosive remnants, supplies of clean drinking water. Currently, the ICRC provides support to 53 health facilities in Yemen from the implementation of hemodialysis, medical care for the injured and the provision of life-saving interventions, to maternity care, the supply of medicines, the implementation of operational interventions and support for health workers.
