Additional agreement to the contract of the Ministry of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany with the company producing IRIS-T SLM systems “Diel Defense”, regarding the delivery of an air defense complex for the Bulgarian Air Force, was signed on October 7, the press center of the Ministry of Defense announced.
The document was prepared in continuation of the Program Agreement between the Federal Ministry of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria for the joint purchase of IRIS-T SLM systems according to the Memorandum of Understanding on the joint purchase of ground-based air defense systems in within the framework of the "Shield of the European Sky" initiative.
The program agreement was signed by the defense ministers of Bulgaria and Germany on September 6, 2024 in implementation of the Project for investment expenditure for the acquisition of IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile systems adopted by the National Assembly. This marks the beginning of the replacement of the air defense systems of the Bulgarian Army.
