The prosecutor's office is investigating the Ministry of Culture regarding the so-called “Theatrical Affair”. Two of the employees in the department have admitted that they approved the payments to the theaters in Razgrad and Smolyan. Now the investigation must establish whether they were also part of the scheme, reported NOVA, quoted by dariknews.bg.
In order for the money to reach the cultural institutes, they must receive approval through an electronic system from an official in the Ministry of Culture. It remains to be seen whether the two who pleaded guilty did so intentionally. Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov revealed that, according to their information, an employee of the department was involved in the scheme.
Minister Nayden Todorov said that next week the prosecutor's office will clarify whether their actions were intentional. At the same time, the Ministry of Culture is checking whether the scheme from Razgrad and Smolyan was active in other places as well.
“They themselves admitted who they were and explained how it happened. At this time, we do not perceive them as criminals, because we have no evidence that this happened intentionally. For me, negligence has been shown”, the Minister of Culture said.
An audit of the ministry found violations in Pazardzhik as early as last year. “The red light came on. The audit of the Ministry of Culture was very severe not only in the Pazardzhik theater, but in several other theaters, and its results were immediately handed over to the State Financial Inspection Agency and the prosecutor's office. They are currently checking both in Pazardzhik and in the other theaters. I spoke with the prosecutor, we agreed that they will come and question the people who are responsible for the payments,“, Todorov explained.
