On 17.10.2024, the annual Gas conference was held in Munich Infrastructure Europe (GIE). The main topics of the large-scale event in Germany were energy security and the sustainability of the European energy system. The event was attended by key figures from the European energy sector.

Bulgarian MEP Tsvetelina Penkova opened the conference and was the main official guest of the event. Earlier this year, Penkova was elected president of the European Energy Forum and vice-chairman of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy in the European Parliament.

Penkova focuses on the need for innovation and pragmatic energy policies in the EU. "The future of the Union depends on the policies we adopt, the innovations we encourage and the stability of the energy systems we build. Energy remains high on the EU's legislative agenda. The main priority is the provision of low prices for households and industries," said the MEP.

It emphasizes the need for investment in the electricity transmission network and the infrastructure that needs to be modernized in order to reduce the differences in energy prices in different parts of the EU.

"Europe relies on diverse energy sources – nuclear energy, natural gas, renewable energy resources. But we also need resources and technologies like hydrogen and ammonia that are part of the energy mix of the future. We need to focus on innovation in order to have an energy system resistant to future challenges.", the president of the European Energy Forum emphasized.

Tsvetelina Penkova concluded with a clear message: “We must strive for solutions that will not only reduce costs for households and industries, but also ensure long-term competitiveness of the European economy. Only in this way will our economy flourish while we preserve our unique social model and natural resources for future generations.“
