„The agreement reached between GERB-SDF and DB on the possibility of forming a government is at a very early stage”. This was stated by political scientist Svetlin Tachev in the program „Denyat na Zievo” on NOVA NEWS, after the information came out that the two formations are preparing an agreement for joint governance.
„It is still not clear how many political forces will be in the future cabinet. First, it must be seen whether an agreement can be reached with the BSP and the ITN, as well as between these four formations. Only then can we talk about the possibility of forming a cabinet. Interestingly, DB took a different path than PP. The two forces are starting to permanently walk in different corridors”, said Tachev.
The political scientist explained what the risks are of individual participation of DB in a future government with GERB. “The interesting thing is to see whether DB would participate in a government without PP. There are risks for both formations, but it seems that there are more for DB - participation in a cabinet with Borisov, without achieving the set goals, could give PP the opportunity to earn dividends, including attracting voters from DB. This could happen if DB fails to agree on its goals”, said Tachev. He pointed out that now the PP is getting another bonus with the request for parliamentary immunity.
The political scientist believes that GERB-SDF and the DB will try to attract the PP to the future government, but this would happen if GERB leader Boyko Borisov accepts the declaration of a “sanitary cordon” to Delyan Peevski's formation.
According to Tachev, the key to the government agreements is the choice of the Prosecutor General. “Borisov is a legitimizing factor for them (the PP and the DB), and he cannot do without them. It is even better if both the PP and the DB are in the government. The question is whether they are ready to make a concession. The situation is key to the integrity and future of the PP-DB”, said the political scientist.
Regarding today's visit by Viktor Orban, the political scientist said that the political narrative is changing in the world. “A smooth turn towards Orban's theses is beginning to be made. The paradox is that he - from an isolated leader - can become a messenger, including of Donald Trump's ideas”, said Tachev. Regarding yesterday's visit by Mark Rutte, he explained that we are a flank of NATO and that is why we are important.
