Valeria Veleva: After Boyko Borisov, the most prepared for prime minister is Rosen Zhelyazkov - 1

"Borisov has shown that he is ready to give up the prime minister's post. The next one who is being talked about, and perhaps the best prepared after him in this situation - is Rosen Zhelyazkov. But he is again a strongly party figure". This opinion was expressed in the program "Offensive with Lyubomir Ognyanov" on NOVA News by journalist Valeria Veleva.

She commented on the negotiations to form a cabinet between GERB-SDF, "Democratic Bulgaria", "BSP-United Left" and "There is such a people". "It is obvious that everyone has to give up, and serious things. If we look at the signs coming from the negotiation process, we can see that we have something positive. Namely, that everyone has realized that there must be a government. But from here on, the problems begin. Talks have been going on between GERB and DB for two weeks, but there is nothing concrete, except for general statements. It is not known whether they have reached an agreement regarding the declaration of the “sanitary cordon”, for the bill suspending the election of the Prosecutor General,” she pointed out.

And she added: “There is a feeling that the ball is being kicked in these negotiations so that the Bill on Changes in the Judiciary, which PP and DB really want, can enter the Legal Committee on January 7. The question is whether, after this law is adopted - PP and DB will not back down? And one more thing. At this point, we do not have an answer to the question of whether DB will sign an agreement with GERB without PP? And if they sign, does this mean the end of the coalition? There is no answer to this question. In my opinion, it is not possible. At least from what we have heard so far. Kiril Petkov and Assen Vassilev are categorical that they will not touch GERB if these two things are not fulfilled".

When asked what the expectations are for who could be the next prime minister to receive the first mandate from the president, Veleva said: "The figure of the candidate prime minister is as much an enigma as the agreement itself, which we only talk about, but no one has seen. Borisov has shown that he is ready to give in. The next one who is being talked about, and perhaps the best prepared after him in this situation, is Rosen Zhelyazkov. But he is again a strong party figure.

According to her, however, until "we really see a coalition agreement, and until the principles they agreed on come out", everything will be in the realm of fortune-telling regarding the prime minister's chair and the ministers in the cabinet. "Everyone will pay a price. And they will have to explain to their electorate why they paid this price. There are many question marks. I am rather a moderate optimist and a moderate pessimist for the formation of a cabinet. In my opinion, the chance is 50/50", she emphasized.

Veleva also commented on what is happening in the MRF against the backdrop of the 35th anniversary of the party's establishment, which is celebrated on Saturday. "After what happened at the end of December with the National Conference of the MRF and what is currently visible, for me 35 years since the establishment of the MRF - Dogan remains in the past, and Peevski goes into the future. And today it would have been very significant if Dogan had appeared at this celebration of the DPS. Because in the "Ramada" hall there is not a single one of the founders of the DPS 35 years ago. And if Dogan had the strength, if Dogan had the energy to stand in front of these people, to lead them and say "No matter what, we will continue to move forward"... he did not do it. In my opinion, this is his huge mistake", Veleva is categorical.

„Everyone pays a price. Everyone who has been in power, who has touched it – then pays a cruel price. At least Bulgarian politics is like that. There is no good word for participation in power”, she commented on the question of what the price of future power is against the background of her anniversary, which she marked with the publication of two books dedicated to power – „Ah, this power” and “Wounds of Power”.
