“The drug HHC and its analogues come in several varieties - besides in vapes. They are found in jelly candies or marshmallows. These treats are sold mainly online”, the head of the "Fight against drug trafficking" department at the "Customs" agency Stefan Bakalov told NOVA.
He commented that there is an increased interest in vapes among children between 13-15 years old. “The effect on young people can be disastrous, because they lose orientation and fall into a state of hallucinations. This is the most widely used substance in neighborhood gardens,” he pointed out.
“Nowadays, most narcotics are ordered online. They are legal in several countries in Europe. In 2023, when these substances were banned, we caught shipments that contained vapes, in the last year we have been catching shipments that contain the cartridges themselves or one and two liters of the substance. Most often they are transported by courier shipments that come from abroad,” Bakalov emphasized.
”Currently, a network for the distribution of this type of drug is being built in our country. In this way, various online stores are loaded with shipments from abroad,” said the head of the “Fighting Drug Trafficking” department at the “Customs” agency.
According to him, last year they detained more than 35 liters of psychoactive substances. This is more than 35,000 doses. They detained about 17 kilograms specifically for HHC.
“With our entry into Schengen, our job becomes more difficult to stop such shipments. The shipments that we detain at Sofia Airport are from the Czech Republic and the Netherlands”, Bakalov emphasized.
“Recently, we have also detained new analogues of hexahydrocannabinol, which are modified and more potent”, he pointed out.
