Head of State Rumen Radev will today award the Presidential Badge of Honor to Rear Admiral R.E. Rumen Popov and Vice Admiral R.E. Plamen Manushev for their faithful and worthy service in the Bulgarian Army and for their significant contribution to the development and strengthening of our Armed Forces. This was announced by the President’s press office, quoted by BTA.
The awards, which will be presented at a ceremony in the Coat of Arms Hall of “Dondukov“ 2, are also on the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of the founding of the Higher Naval School “N. Y. Vaptsarov“ on January 9, 1881.
January 9 is the anniversary of the establishment (1881) of the Naval School in Ruse. The initiator of the formation of the educational institution was Capt.-Lieutenant. Alexander Konkevich, indicates information from the "Reference" department of BTA. After 1900, the educational institution was moved to Varna and renamed the Naval School of the Fleet. In 1949, the Naval School adopted Nikola Vaptsarov, a poet, a graduate of the school from the class of 1926, as its patron, and received the name of the National Naval School “N. Y. Vaptsarov“. Since 1991, it has been the Higher Naval School “N. Y. Vaptsarov".
