Glavchev: Repair of the Danube Bridge is urgent - 1

Our full admission to Schengen is an achievement and we will not allow a “spoonful of tar“ to be put in everything that we have gained with so much effort over the years. This was stated by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, who today visited the Danube Bridge near Ruse in connection with the organization of traffic of cars and trucks across the border. At the moment there are no queues, but over the past few days there have been congestions given the urgent repair of the bridge that has begun.

Prime Minister Glavchev pointed out two basic principles that should be guiding in dealing with the situation – the passage of cars should be as fast as possible, and when traffic is more intense, the normal life of Ruse residents should not be interfered with. The Prime Minister expects proposals to be made, including from the regional governor and the mayor, on ways to optimize the processes. The state will provide whatever is necessary so that there is maximum throughput across the bridge within the limits of possibilities, Glavchev pointed out.

The Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Violeta Koritarova pointed out that work is already underway on the possibility of having a separate route for cars that have paid online, so that they are not in the general queue and can pass freely. We will try to do it in a short time, assured Minister Koritarova. She also pointed out that the institutions are in constant contact through their local structures and exchange information about traffic in the Ruse region, so that a timely response can be made. At the moment, we have focused our resources and efforts in the time period in which the congestion occurs, in order to make the necessary organization, added Koritarova. According to her, the repair of the Danube Bridge is on schedule.

The Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova stated that in the absence of queues there is no need for the so-called “virtual queues“. Koritarova also noted that the benefits of the land Schengen are clearly visible on the Danube Bridge II, where the crossing of a truck takes less than 1 minute.
