The main cause of fires on a scale like those in California is climate change. This was commented on Nova TV by Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov.
He explained that firefighters in the US are currently having a problem with strong winds and tall dry vegetation.
“When the wind is so strong, it is impossible to control the fire”, he said.
In our country, the summer of 2024 was extremely difficult for the firefighters.
„We also encountered temperatures above 40 degrees for days, strong winds, dry, tall vegetation”, explained Dzhartov.
According to him, the southern regions most at risk from fires are usually Plovdiv, Haskovo, Yambol, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Blagoevgrad.
He explained that in winter the fire department has the most work around fallen trees and branches that have blocked roads.
„The number of fires in summer and winter is incomparable. But now the fires are mainly in residential buildings”, said Dzhartov.
