Rosen Zhelyazkov: If the DB were part of the cabinet, the government would look much more serious and stable - 1

The convergence report on joining the eurozone will be requested after February 18, when the draft State Budget is submitted. This became clear from the words of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in "Panorama".

He pointed out that the budget that will be proposed must have a deficit ceiling of up to 3%.

"In the priorities that we wrote down together with "Democratic Bulgaria" "in the coalition agreement, joining the eurozone is a main goal," Zhelyazkov emphasized.

He pointed out that our country must meet debt, inflation and deficit requirements. And the moment he covers them, to submit a request for a convergent report.

"We are not looking for a window, but for the sustainability of public finances", the Prime Minister emphasized.

Asked when he found out that he was nominated for Prime Minister, Zhelyazkov emphasized that during the negotiations, especially with "Democratic Bulgaria", they did not find an understanding that bearing political responsibility in the person of the political leader is a prerequisite for a stable government and majority.

He indicated that the decision to nominate him took place around December.

"They also refused the nomination and we interrupted the talks with the DB", Zhelyazkov recalled.

According to him, the talks were not in vain, since over 90% of the Joint Management Agreement was made with them.

Zhelyazkov pointed out that this was the reason for breaking off the negotiations, since the BSP and ITN stated that the nomination for prime minister was acceptable.

"And we do not share the view of a neutral, equidistant candidate for prime minister", Zhelyazkov emphasized.

"If the DB were part of the ruling majority and also part of the cabinet, I think the government would look much more serious and stable", he pointed out.

Zhelyazkov emphasized that the support of "Democracy, Rights and Freedoms - MRF" was the necessary prerequisite for a government to be voted in and to enjoy the necessary political support for all actions that need to be taken.

"DPS-New Beginning" is not part of the majority and the cabinet. Any unregulated influence, regardless of whether it comes from a political formation or an individual, has ways to be prosecuted by law, he explained.

Regarding immunities, Zhelyazkov stated that the parliament's decision was most likely dictated by considerations related to the motives for the request.

"I have no doubt that the parliament acted in accordance with the understanding of the majority, as well as in accordance with the law and its powers," Zhelyazkov stated.

Asked by whom a wider majority of 160 votes would be sought, Zhelyazkov stated that in very few cases there is a need for this. He gave an example with the election of the Supreme Judicial Council.

"There are no prerequisites for not seeking a broad majority, the important thing is to nominate candidates who will enjoy trust", Zhelyazkov pointed out.

"When the time comes to elect bodies, regulators, then there will be talks with everyone", Zhelyazkov emphasized.

When asked whether support for Ukraine will be increased or decreased, Zhelyazkov recalled that the country has been helping us since the first day of the country.

"We will continue with all EU and NATO measures and be in solidarity with the cause of Ukraine", the Prime Minister was categorical.
