Kostadinov: The government deserves congratulations for not requesting an extraordinary convergence report - 1

The government has pressed the "pause" button in the process of joining the Eurozone. The government deserves congratulations for not requesting an extraordinary convergence report. This was stated by the leader of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov in a statement from the parliament rostrum, quoted by news.bg.

According to him, Bulgaria must be protected from a national financial catastrophe. The country is facing the danger of losing the last remnants of its national sovereignty and traditions by handing over financial stability to foreign hands. Bulgarian citizens must be protected from losing their income and savings, Kostadinov insisted, showering criticism on the euro and the Eurozone.

"Vazrazhdane" insisted on transparency, professionalism and honesty in public finances. Among other things, the formation will insist on hearing Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova, who will answer eight questions. The questions raised by "Vazrazhdane" are when will the Ministry of Finance conduct an audit of the full and accurate amount of budget payments? When will they be paid? What is the size of the budget deficit in 2024? When will the authorities inform Eurostat about the amounts due and unpaid? How will the government spend the fiscal reserve? Will the government reach for funds from the Silver Fund? Have the Finance Minister's plans been coordinated with GERB's coalition partners? Has the government received approval for its plan for the fiscal reserve from the BNB?

Kostadinov also asked at what rate the lev will be determined when Bulgaria enters the Eurozone? He wants to know whether there are talks about devaluation and depreciation of the Bulgarian lev. The leader of "Vazrazhdane" does not want Bulgaria to become a second Croatia or to end up in a state bankruptcy like in Greece. Kostadinov once again sounded the alarm about the skeletons in the budget closet, delayed due to the budget deficit. In its last days, the caretaker government has canceled budget expenditures in order to achieve an acceptable deficit on a cash and accrual basis.
