Bulgaria will not submit a request for an extraordinary convergence report for the time being, which is the key step for entering the eurozone.
This became clear from the words of Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova from the parliament rostrum, BNR reports. She explained that during her meetings with the European Commissioner for Finance, the President of the Eurogroup and the President of the ECB, she received signals that our country must meet all the criteria in order to become a member of the eurozone.
Temenuzhka Petkova reminded that as of December 2024, inflation in our country was 0.1 percentage points above the reference value.
"Of course, we will submit a request for a convergence report as soon as possible, but we must meet the relevant criteria. Before we meet these criteria, the risk of receiving a negative response is high. For this reason, we must first be aware of the 2025 Budget, then Bulgaria's structural and fiscal plan must be approved, as it guarantees precisely this sustainability that we must show, and only then will we move in this direction," the Minister of Finance stated.
