Vitanov: The key issue is not in the choice of the BSP leader, but what will happen to the party after the government - 1

The BSP is a party that is permanently reducing its weight, which is torn by internal contradictions, wandering between the views of its voters, but a party in power, which already gives a completely different appearance. The organizational collapse, the pathlessness in the BSP and the lack of clearly expressed leadership is also illustrated by the many candidates for the leadership of the party, but few of them are serious and have any chances. He said this in the program "Metronome" on Radio "Focus" the head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the previous mandate of the European Parliament, Petar Vitanov.

"From the point of view of the seriousness of the candidates - yes, there are key names, but from the point of view of the conjuncture, which is very important nowadays, the fight for leadership is more likely to be between Atanas Zafirov and Borislav Gutsanov", said the former MEP.

The key issue, according to him, is not so much the choice of the party's leader, but what will happen to the BSP after its participation in the government. It cannot receive dividends from its participation in power and, according to him, "BSP is sinking to the cheerful music of the orchestra". According to him, there are two objective facts for this, one being that over the past 15 years, Borisov's partners in a number of governments ended their participation with major negatives and even disintegrated as organizations, and the great fear is that the BSP will end its parliamentary existence with the end of the government's life. The second is that in the years before, when the BSP was in power and many good things were achieved, at the end of the mandate the party lost the trust of its voters. "Cumulatively, the two things speak of a foretold catastrophe. Even more so is the ambiguous acceptance of the BSP's participation in this cabinet by left-wing voters, because these are the parties - GERB and DPS, with which the BSP is fighting most actively".

According to him, Peevski's enormous power gives him the possible tools to influence the government. "Peevski is in the most advantageous position at the moment, since he publicly appears as an opposition, in the interest of truth he takes away some of the traditional topics of the BSP, related to vulnerable groups, with social benefits. On the other hand, he has mechanisms to influence the decisions of this government".

The only option for the BSP after the end of its participation in power is to exit the government with dignity by achieving concrete results in the key sectors it manages. The Ministry of Environment and Water and the Regional Ministry must solve huge problems that the entire Bulgarian society is facing, such as the problems with water shortages in over 100 municipalities, as well as the regional imbalance in economic terms on the territory of the country. According to Vitanov, solving these important problems for society cannot go unnoticed and unappreciated by voters. "The results may even enable the BSP to push itself off this electoral bottom".
