Adv. Petar Slavov on the MECH case: There are several ways out of the situation. They go through dialogue, not through arguments - 1

"It may turn out that we are on the verge of a new parliamentary crisis, which is yet to unfold and gain momentum". This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Adv. Petar Slavov, after it became clear that the parliamentary group of "Moral, Unity, Honor" (MECH) will cease to exist.
Parliament Speaker Natalia Kiselova announced that MP Samuil Borisov Slavov has been released after he resigned himself, which makes the remaining MPs independent, and party leader Radostin Vassilev will no longer be deputy speaker of parliament.
Radostin Vassilev threatened to block the work of the National Assembly if the Speaker of the National Assembly does not change his decision to dissolve their parliamentary group.

There are several possible ways out of the situation, explained attorney Slavov in the program "Predi vissi".

"To a large extent, they go through dialogue, not through ultimatums and arguments.

They can discuss what Kiselova announced at the Speakers' Council. It is not even a solution.

They could also think about specifying these hypotheses in the regulations.
Everything depends on political will. Then it will become clear what the motives were for all this to happen".

There is a glaring need for changes to the Electoral Code, attorney Slavov also pointed out.

"The good news, speaking of the Electoral Code, is that the working group really started its activities last week. There was quite a lot of interest and desire for constructive work".

Slavov hopes that a bill will be drafted that "gives additional guarantees for the honesty of the vote, for the method of counting the vote, a return to a normal election procedure, so that we do not end up with another round of election disputes".

The bad news, according to Slavov, is that "there will also be severe obstructions from the on-duty opporkadji".

He believes that it is good to give Bulgarian citizens the opportunity to decide for themselves whether to vote by machine or on paper.

"To restore machine voting in the form in which it existed in 2021 - with the control receipt, machine counting, etc."

He also commented on the choice of a new Supreme Judicial Council.

"The MPs themselves adopted at the beginning of the year a 6-month period within which this selection should take place from both the parliamentary quota and the judiciary.

There must be objective criteria by which the candidates can be ranked".

Adv. Slavov hopes that this will allow for an informed choice and decision by the National Assembly.

"Otherwise, the suspicion of political bargaining, which we have already seen in 2017 – s. We have also seen the consequences of this".
