The European Chief Prosecutor has informed the European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the European Commission that the College of the European Public Prosecutors has decided to open an administrative investigation into possible wrongdoing by the Bulgarian European Prosecutor in the framework of an ongoing investigation by the European Public Prosecutor's Office. This was announced by the EU Public Prosecutor's Office, quoted by BTA.
The responsibility for assessing the data underlying this investigation in relation to the independence of the prosecutor under investigation lies with the EP, the Council of the EU and the EC, the announcement specifies.
This is a basic requirement for the initial appointment of the European Prosecutors and for their ability to perform their duties during their mandate, the text adds.
The independence of all EU prosecutors is one of the core values of the European Public Prosecutor's Office and is essential for the fulfilment of their mission. The European Prosecutors are appointed by the Council of the EU, the statement added.
