The Ministry of Education will propose for discussion a change in the educational structure, which envisages the return of grade 8 to primary education.
This was stated in Lukovit by the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, who opened a new STEM center at the Sofia University "Aleko Konstantinov" there, reports the Bulgarian National Radio.
According to Minister Valchev, the reduction of primary education to grade 7 has yielded negative results and therefore the change is imperative:
"The educational structure is which stage and which grade it is. Should primary education be completed in grade 7? You remember, at one time we graduated with you from 8th grade, we lowered it to 7th. This, from today's point of view, gives negative results. I can't point out a single positive effect from this! At the same time, we see the stress on the children, the lowered material, the rushing through the material".
The Minister of Education once again clarified that studying religion will not be mandatory and responded to the resignation demanded at last night's protest:
"We have not ignored anyone's opinion. We have a position. We have also published a concept for the alternative program "Virtues and Ethics". Resignations are requested every day. I accept the right of everyone to have a different opinion, to demand resignations, but we are obliged to realize our intentions, our views, our political priorities, in which we believe and I am convinced that a large part of our fellow citizens will support us. Bulgarian schools must educate".
