This move by the president has brought the topic of the euro back into the register of hysteria.
With this observation, political scientist Strahil Deliyski began his commentary to the Bulgarian National Radio on Rumen Radev's proposal for a referendum on the euro:
"The way in which the president entered, the time at which he entered, the proposal with which he came out, did not contribute in any way to the normalization of this conversation and to the transformation of the debate into a rational conversation and the exit from the hysteria. Something like this should have been expected. That's why I think it was clear that Radev's proposal would cause hysteria and if the goal was to cause hysteria - this goal has been achieved".
Entering the eurozone means dynamics in a number of sectors, the political scientist emphasized and added:
"The question is what we do next - what happens to the Bulgarian economy, finances, wages, trade, etc. We must be prepared for what will happen in the eurozone and this is what the government should deal with".
According to Strahil Deliyski, the parliament will reject Rumen Radev's request to hold a referendum on the euro.
There are still no visible outlines of some political project of the president, as many expect to appear, he pointed out:
"This action may be the result of motivation related to such a project, but it may also be related to something else. We don't know".
According to the political scientist, the president is helping "Vazrazhdane" with this action, who are associated with this topic:
"I'm not sure he managed to wink at their audience, I don't see what they can be worried about from "Vazrazhdane". The situation has already been let go - the National Assembly has submitted a request for an extraordinary convergence report, which shows that we want to enter the eurozone.
