The actions of President Rumen Radev and his idea of a referendum on the euro are sabotage for Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone. This was stated in “The Day Begins“ on BNT by Martin Dimitrov from PP-DB.
“We are 20 days before the release of the convergence report and about 40-50 before the decision on Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone. The report is currently being written. When should this referendum be held. It is clear to the president that this cannot happen before the convergence report and before the release of the decision on entry into the eurozone. That is, he is not aiming for a referendum with these actions, but rather at obstructing the procedure for Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone," commented Martin Dimitrov from the PP-DB.
He described the president's actions as unconstitutional.
“The president of Bulgaria cannot first submit an unconstitutional request, find himself in a situation in which his expert, who deals with these issues, resigns and says “a referendum cannot be requested on such an issue”, and 40 professors come out and say that a referendum cannot be requested on such an issue. Unfortunately, Rumen Radev is playing against Bulgaria's interests on this issue," Martin Dimitrov also said.
Let there be referendums, but let them be legal, the PP-DB MP urged.
PP-DB has proposed a declaration for the National Assembly to pronounce that it is in favor of Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone from January 1, 2026.
According to him, the information campaign about the euro is overdue.
"It is sorely lacking. What needs to be done is to photograph the prices of basic goods such as bread, milk, etc. in these countries that entered the eurozone and show people that they have not become more expensive," Martin Dimitrov also said.
According to him, if we miss this chance to enter the eurozone, it is not known when our country will have this opportunity again.
