Land public transport in Sofia will be stopped from 4:00 tonight due to a protest, dariknews.bg reported.
This was announced by the trade union organizations of the Federation of Transport Unions under the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions and the Federation of Transport Workers under the Confederation of Trade Unions “Podkrepa“. The strike actions in front of the depots and garages of public transport companies in Sofia are planned to continue until 8:00 in the morning on May 14, but there is a possibility that they may continue until noon. Only metro trains will run. The "Traffic Police" are on standby if there is any need to regulate traffic in the city, the SDVR indicated.
The protest under the title “Decent Work – decent pay! Without transport there is no economy!“ is in connection with the ongoing chronic underfunding of the “Transport“ sector, the lack of an adequate income policy and the continued refusal of the responsible institutions to engage in real solutions, the unions point out.
Today - May 14, will be a non-school day for schools in Sofia due to the protest of public transport employees, Mayor Vasil Terziev announced today. He stated that the Sofia Municipality plans to increase the monthly gross salaries in land transport by 100 leva, which is a 5% increase. According to the mayor, there is no opportunity for more funds for public transport drivers in the municipality's budget at this stage.
