President Rumen Radev's request for a referendum on the euro divides society. This was commented on “The Day Begins“ by PP-DB MP Lena Borislavova on BNT.
"For us, the president's request, with which he divides Bulgarian society at a very key moment seconds before we enter the eurozone, is actually a reprehensible act. Because, among other things, he is also inconsistent in this behavior, since up until two months ago he was filmed saying that there is no problem with us entering the eurozone, that there can be no referendum on this issue, and suddenly, minutes before we enter the eurozone, he finds such a problem and demands the convening of a referendum,“ said PP-DB MP Lena Borislavova.
The fact that the information campaign is late is a fact, but this cannot be made up for by this method, Lena Borislavova also commented. According to her, the president could have organized a roundtable discussion, or he could have asked the government for a clearer communication campaign and continued in a constructive manner with the concerns of the citizens.
„For example, they could have been explained something that people are worried about, that after entering the eurozone, within a period of one year, according to a law that was voted a long time ago, during the Denkov cabinet, prices for a year will be announced both in leva and in euros. So that there is no speculation, so that there are no concerns about rounding. It could be explained that pensions will be rounded by law in favor of pensioners, if there is any hesitation. As well as that every day for the next year, Bulgarians can convert 10 thousand leva into euros so that they don't have to worry about it... These things could have been said by the president, by his institution, in a way that Bulgarians would understand that there is nothing to worry about and that it is better for them to be friends in the eurozone“, said Lena Borislavova.
In her words, we are too far along in the eurozone process to hold a referendum just yet.
She criticizes the work of the Speaker of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova.
"We have significant remarks about the activities of Associate Professor Kiselova as Speaker of the National Assembly. One of these is yesterday's refusal to advance my parliamentary question to Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, who on the one hand actively entered into negotiations with the unions and promised some 15 million leva for public transport in Sofia. On the other hand, according to her, he was not competent to answer questions about his actions.
What did you ask him?
I asked if, after promising the sum of 15 million once, which is still extremely insufficient, whether for 2025 and whether next year, when the unions are again threatening strikes for next year and do not receive the increases, will they still provide these 15 million? Or Sofia Municipality will have twice as big a problem because of the populism of Borisov and Rosen Zhelyazkov“, commented Lena Borislavova.
According to her, the bigger problem in this case is the ruling majority - BSP and GERB, which are the ruling majority in parliament and in the municipal council.
“What they do as experienced managers is to create problems, make all citizens
suffer for a certain period of time and then pretend to be saviors. However, instead of solving the problem, they actually increase it, as is happening with these 15 million. These 15 million will not be enough for this year. Most likely, they will not be given within a year, but the unions, which are led by municipal councilors from BSP and GERB, have already been shown that this is GERB's way of terror“, said Borislavova.
