„May 24 is the most beautiful and brightest Bulgarian holiday – a ray from the past that illuminates the present and points to the future“. This is stated by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in a greeting on the occasion of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slavic Literature. The Prime Minister emphasized that this day is a symbol of the spiritual greatness of Bulgaria and of the continuous striving for knowledge, education and progress.
In his address, the Prime Minister also addressed Bulgarians abroad. He expressed gratitude to the thousands of compatriots around the world who, through their hard work, knowledge and loyalty, earn respect and keep the Bulgarian spirit alive. Zhelyazkov placed special emphasis on the role of Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad, defining them as “hotbeds of knowledge and spirit“, where our language, culture and self-awareness are preserved.
