The change in the president's position regarding our admission to the eurozone is a request for a new political entity. I do not believe that Radev will leave "Dondukov 2" before the end of his term, but he is preparing what he will do next - politics.
This was told to NOVA NEWS by the chairman of the UDF and deputy chairman of the GERB-UDF parliamentary group, Rumen Hristov.
On May 23, the president referred the Constitutional Court for a mandatory interpretation of the Constitution and declaring null and void the refusal of the chairman of the National Assembly to submit for consideration by the parliament the proposal to hold a national referendum with the question "Do you agree that Bulgaria should introduce the single European currency "euro" in 2026?”.
"Radev is well aware of the advantages that the eurozone will bring, but he only thinks about those that he would have. His position on the euro has changed sharply, and until recently he said that a referendum on the topic was unacceptable and overdue", said Hristov.
10 days remain until the release of the convergence report, which will answer the question of whether our country will join the eurozone.
According to Hristov, the report will probably be positive, but after it comes the inevitability of a stable information campaign.
"The hesitation of citizens regarding the eurozone is already a fact. The leaders of the nation are important in such key moments for the country. The president is one of them. Difficult decisions have to be made, and they are usually made by the elites. We are counting on 171 MPs to form a solid parliamentary majority - and to be on the side of the euro. Fears of rounding up prices and speculation are normal, but this happens everywhere and can be prevented with strict control. We lose 800-900 million leva annually from currency conversion. The possibility of bankruptcies and the melting of Bulgarians' savings is eliminated," Hristov noted.
The PP-DB proposal to apply the sanctions under the "Magnitsky" law to Bulgaria as well, Hristov commented as follows: "This is a fixation and nagging with Mr. Peevski. "I hear the PP-DB's reproaches every day, but I don't hear how Bulgarians can live better, nor who they will govern with, since they don't like anyone," said the UDF leader.
Hristov said he would support Plamen Tonchev as head of the Commission on Files.
